Apple has been a money printing press for the last decade. At the behest of the late Steve Jobs, they have had one key, core ability that no other company has been able to match. No, it definitely wasn't innovation or engineering. It was... the RDF. The Reality Distortion Field! For some reason, when normal people look at Apple hardware or financials, they don't see reality, they see Reality Distooooorrrrtion! But before we get to that, let’s see what all of the smart people in the financial world had to say...
Continuing the conversation of whether it's time to short America, we investigate the administration's plans for protectionism and a tax holiday for corporate capital repatriation. The first question that needs to be asked is, "Who benefits from this, and why do they want it done?"
Last week I queried "Is Bitcoin the Undisputed Best Performing Asset Class In the World?". The purpose of that piece and the piece before it was to debunk long standing misconceptions as to the actual investment performance of BTC (bitcoin) as portrayed by respected institutions such as the London Business School and the Financial Times, not to mention Money Magazine.
Now, it's time to get into exactly what value propositions are there to support bitcoin's price.
The animal spirits are whispering... They are calling into question the stability of the US in light of the significant geopolitical uncertainties introduced by the new US administration and how that plays into increasingly unprecedented global macroeconomic forces coming into play as the EU and US achieve their long sought after inflation in a world of negative interest rates and central bank sponsored asset purchases to distort the markets.
These spirits are whispering... Is it time to short the United Stages of America?
Trump's fiscal stimulus proclamations in addition to his border tax rhetoric puts a definitive boost behind the USD.
Since Trump's election, US equity markets have been on a tear. The stated reason was belief that his America jobs first, tax cuts and lowered regulation would stimulate business.
I've instructed my analysts to delve into companies whose fundamentals may not be able to follow up on that promise...
Over the last 5 years, I have warned that T-Mobile would start turning up the heat in the US dead beat carrier business (see links below). I call them dead beat carriers because they relied on a virtual duopoly of cash cow cash flows and failed toi innovate. They actually allowed Silicon Value to capitalize on thier apathy, and now they are rlelgated to bg dumb utlitiy pipes in lieu of the lifeblood... the synapses of communication and commerce between all people an businesses.
A border tax would hurt foreign companies that rely on cheap Amercian labor in Mexico would get hurt first, and then the increased costs will get passed on to the US consumer. This is all part and parcel of going after Mexico via a trade war/ This also doesn't take into consideration the fact that Mexico purchases a lot from the USA as well.
Re: Trump and his Mexican wall, you can't unring the bell once it comes to global economics. The biggest beneficiaries in terms of building materials from building a Mexican wall will likely be Mexican materials companies.
In the educational piece titled "Is Bitcoin Too Risky? Whenever the Bitcoin is Mentioned in Financial Pop Media, Ignorance Ensues," I reviewed the many misconceptions that "so-called" professional investment types had about bitcoin, its relative risks and rewards. I called out the Financial Times, the London Business School and Money Magazine as basically not knowing what they hell they were talking about. Now, we will take the analysis a step further for those investors who want to get their feet a little more than just wet.
