A thorough forensic analysis of Goldman Sachs, Bear Stearns, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, and Lehman Brothers has uncovered...

Last week, Morgan Stanley called Citibank the “short play of the year for 2008”. That is rather rare – an investment bank not only issuing a plainly worded sell recommendation, but an actual short recommendation? And on a fellow bank??? And did Citibank called Morgan Stanley the short play of the year for 2008 ?
They should. It's classic. They say prostitutes always talk the loudest about virtue and robbers the loudest about honesty. It would be nice to know which is the riskiest bank in Europe and Asia. I think that Morgan Stanley has a lot of company.

European banks have $400bn hole in balance sheets
By David Oakley

Published: June 14 2008 03:00 | Last updated: June 14 2008 03:00

European banks have a $400bn hole on their balance sheets in spite of a record-breaking week in fundraising from rights issues.

This is a 20 per cent increase from the end of last year, raising a big question mark over the health of the banks and suggesting the credit crisis is deepening, according to Citigroup.
