its also important to point out that you can have deflation and having rising treasury rates. i hear people speak as if they both must happen which is not true. you can have both, it's not impossible. but of course that would be the worst case scenario, all depends on willingness to debase our currency and compress world trade....

Despite your concession that you are not an economist, this is a great analysis. As you have heard, if you lay all the economists end to end, they would reach to the moon and back but they still would not reach a conclusion. That said, you seem to be saying that where this ends up depends a lot on the commodity input prices as well as the expectation of increased capital costs. This has been a subject of debate in my own head and I don't see any way around the mid to long term trend of increased real interest rates due to heavy government selling of treasuries and creation of currency. So this is when the goldbugs come in and people like Marc Faber. Where do stand on that if all the large central governments have fiat currency and are heavily borrowing? As an aside, to pick on another glaring subject, why are the barbarians not at the gates when the entire country is suffering quite terribly with no end in sight and Goldman Sachs announces that it expects a record bonus payout when it just happens that they literally (as an entity itself and through its emeritus members by proxy) are running the bailout plus profiting from the commodity spike?
