This just in: Apple disputes App Annie report: the app store did NOT grow just 13% this year — it grew by over 200% The article reads as excerpted: I can't agree with the assumptions used to determine that Apple App store grew at 60+%. They may or may not have, but there is just not enough into here to determine that they did. For instance, did the payout ration change during the period in question (from 2008 to 2012 is a long tine). Did the reporting periods remain uniform? As well as what was being reported? I'm sure the app store could have grown more than App Annie reported, but instead of guessing we should simply look at the raw numbers, something which I feel Apple will not reveal. Even using the author's 200% number, Google will catch Apple in 6 quarters or so if it continues to push 311% growth. All of these numbers may be off, but one thing that is evident is that Google is shipping much more Android driven handsets than Apple is shipping iOS handsets and growing those shipments at a much faster rate. In addition, the Google handsets are much more adept at web surfing and manipulation than the iOS handsets, with the median screen size now at 4.7 inches, with 6 inches on the high end and 3.5/4 inches on the low end (many powered with LTE speed) as compared to Apple at 3.5 inches average and 4 inches on the high side.
according to a new report from the Wall Street Journal. After receiving certification from China’s State Radio Management earlier this month, Apple has now been awarded a “network access license” that allows it to flip the switch on the iPhone 5 on China Telecom, the country’s third-largest wireless carrier. The WSJ’s report also suggests that China’s second-largest carrier, China Unicom, may not receive the iPhone 5 at launch and that by not making it available on multiple carriers, Apple could cede even more market share to Google’s (GOOG) Android platform. A recent report indicates over 90% of China’s smartphones now run on Android as Apple’s market share has declined.
