Hi Reggie, a Happy New Year to you! Of course, I do know that the public content here isn't advice. Still, when you call a stock the 'short of the year' you do set a pretty well defined timeline for your opinion to play out. Hasn't happened that way, obviously, and while I have no intention whatsoever to harp on it, I just wonder how your very sound thesis may play out going forward - I mean, if they could survive this year, they may well survive another couple of years without any major hits to their stock price, don't ya think?

Stock price is up, timing was off. Advice was not bad, it was actually quite sound and subscribers can easily download the full documentation/justification behind such. The articles available for free are not advice, and shouldn't be taken as such - as all who have not paid for it should know.

Reggie Middleton, prediction never happened! The stock price is up, if anyone did a short position they would have lost money. Bad advice.

Recap options are highly contingent upon asset valuations and operating conditions. Just like with GGP, sucker equity investors were used to kick the can down the road since it appears that many companies can find an ass for every seat. The debt market is a little different and upcoming malaise from Europe will probably tighten things up a bit. From the debt side things operating metrics and asset valuations mean more, but it has been my experience that banks and lenders are very, very lazy (or incapable) when it comes to valuing real assets, thus tend to take management's word for valuations or nearly just as bad, go with templated software driven valuations versus rolling their collective sleeves up and finding out what's going on for themselves. This is how GGP was able to pull the wool over so many lender's eyes for so long.

My takeaway: PEI is still likely to go bk - but with the recapitalisatio n options available this might take a bit longer. imho it won't be this year - but rather 12-18 months from now. of course, the stock could start sliding down at any moment. short interest and borrowing costs are still low. Unfortunately, options are not available beyond january 2013, so selling short the stock is likely the better strategy than playing it with options.
